I've always loved the story about a widow who came to G. Campbell Morgan, the famous English preacher. She said, "Dr. Morgan, do you think God would mind terribly if we brought to Him the little things in our life in prayer?" And he smiled and said, "Madam, can you think of anything that's big to God?" Isn’t that a great perspective? Now, to you and me something might be big. But is it really big to God? Does God ever bite His fingernails? Does He ever say, "I wish you wouldn't have asked me for that"? Is cancer any more difficult for God to heal than a cold? No, it's all little stuff to Him.

But her question is an important one. Typically, people think they can handle the little stuff, and they bring stuff to God when it’s really a big issue. I suggest that you bring the little stuff to Him before it turns into big stuff.

In Job 42:2 we read, "I know that you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted." Job said he knew that. Do you know that? If you know it, learn to say it.

Ephesians 1:11 says God is so powerful that He "works all things according to the counsel of His will." God can make a 99-year-old Abraham into a dad, and a 90-year-old Sarah into a mom. God can make a body of water open up to let people cross it, and then drown the army following them. God can make a nation of slaves possess their own land and become a world power. To God, it’s all little stuff.

Skeptics like to ask things like, "Can God create a rock so big He can’t move it?" That’s a trick question, not a serious one. But there are some things God can’t do. God can’t lie (see Hebrews 6:18). God can’t approve of sin (see Habakkuk 1:13). And God can’t be unfaithful (see 2 Timothy 2:13). God can’t do these things because they’re contrary to His nature.

So what should our response be? We should bring all the things in our life, "little" or "big," to God. After all, the wonderful old hymn, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," has these words: "O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer."

And we should echo the words of David. "I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High" (Psalm 9:1-2).
