SCRIPTURE: Job 1-2

MESSAGE SUMMARY
Ouch! We all learn to say that word pretty early on in life, and we say it all the way through until the very end. Life hurts. Our life span is marked by life sorrows. But our response is what is central to the outcome. When life delivers a knockdown punch, it doesn’t need to become a knockout! Let’s see how Job got back up to shelter in grace.

Connect Up: God, through Christ, suffered, bringing life from His loss. That's why Paul could say, "We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed" (2 Corinthians 4:8-9, NLT). Discuss times of suffering in your own life that produced fruit. What did God teach you through the trial? How can pain reveal His purpose?

Connect In: Peter told Christians not to be surprised when trials come, but to "rejoice insofar as you share Christ's sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when His glory is revealed" (1 Peter 4:12, ESV). How is present pain connected to our future promises? Discuss Revelation 21:4 in your answer.

Connect Out: Take time to pray for the suffering during the COVID crisis. Use the points provided by the Billy Graham Association at https://billygraham.org/story/covid-19-raises-stakes-for-first-responders-pray-for-those-serving-your-community/ to discuss how the following verses can help lead you in your time of prayer. What do these verses tell us what to pray about and how to pray?
