Main Point
An estimated 194 million people have already seen the popular series The Chosen, based on the life and ministry of Jesus Christ. The goal, according to producer Dallas Jenkins, is to reach one billion people, and they are well on their way to reaching that goal. As we close out our Now Streaming series, let’s dig into Jesus’ own announcement to His disciples that they were chosen by Him. What does it mean to be chosen by God? What are we chosen for? What plans does He have for us once we’ve been chosen?

“You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you slaves, because a master doesn’t confide in his slaves. Now you are my friends, since I have told you everything the Father told me. You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. This is my command: Love each other.” —John 15:14-17 (NLT)

Talk about It

  1. What is the greatest sacrifice a friend has made for you? What is the greatest sacrifice you’ve made for a friend? What were the results?
  2. Friends are people you can count on; they respond when you ask them to. Read Proverbs 18:24. How good of a friend have you been to Jesus?
  3. Why do you think there is so much emphasis on producing fruit in John 15? What does the Bible mean when it talks about a fruitful believer?
  4. Discuss the relationship between obedience and love.
“To be chosen is to be valued, to be appreciated, to be esteemed and regarded as important.” —Pastor Skip

Make It PracticalPray
Heavenly Father, it is truly amazing when we consider You choosing us before laying the world’s foundation. You chose us; You made the first move. Because of Your pursuing love, we choose to make ourselves at home in Your love by obeying You—actively, repeatedly, and unconditionally obeying You. Thank You that as a byproduct, You provide inner peace, true love, and lasting joy. Help us to bear fruit that won’t spoil. In the name of our Lord and friend Jesus, amen.
