SERIES: Church? Who Needs It
MESSAGE: Hey, Look Who's Starting a Church!
SPEAKER: Skip Heitzig
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 16:13-18

MESSAGE SUMMARY
Church was God's idea. It's His plan. Jesus Christ is the founder, architect, builder, owner, and director of the church. Today we look at the first mention of the church in the Bible and consider our spiritual origins. As we listen into a conversation between Jesus and His followers, let's also rediscover our spiritual roots as the people of God. You'll discover that in New Testament terms, both Christian and church are synonymous--one implies the other.

Questions for Home Groups:

  1. When you hear of a need at your local church--someone hurting, in need of some help--how do respond? Is your first thought, "What can I do to show them Christ's love?"  Or do you think, "That's the church's job--somebody should do something about that"? If the latter is your response, then you've missed the whole point: church isn't something you attend, it's something you become!

Jesus never promised that your church will continue to survive in society--but He did promise that His church will survive and thrive. What does that mean in light of modern research concerning church growth and development?
