SERIES: 21 Ecclesiastes - What's the Point? - 2000
MESSAGE: Building A House Or A Home
SPEAKER: Skip Heitzig
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 127

MESSAGE SUMMARY
The reason this psalm is important to us today is because of its author-notice Solomon was the one who wrote it. Here, the master philosopher-builder-entrepreneur reflects on the central core of human life-the home. The Christian leader John Henry Jowett wrote, "Anyone can build a house: we need the Lord for the creation of a home." I believe Solomon penned this psalm during the upswing in his outlook described in the second half of Ecclesiastes.

OUTLINE

  1. A House Built on Vanity (vv. 1-2)

    1. Unblessed Labor

    2. Unnecessary Anxiety

  2. A Home Built on Value (vv. 3-5)

    1. Godly Relationships

    2. Godly Heritage

Pondering the Principles:
  1. How much energy have you spent in managing your "house" compared to your "home"? Are your relationships as strong as the framing and structure of your house? What things would you like to see changed? How will you implement these changes?

  2. If God has given you the gift of children, how are you planning to “launch them”?  In what ways is your own life an example of what you want them to be?  Once they’re launched into life, will they be confident or ashamed? (v. 5)
